I was over on Pelham Parkway in the Bronx the other day , there was this new tall building with very few windows, I found out this is the new 911 call center. My question is, are their 911 call centers in each borough or one central call center for all N.Y.C ?
There is one in Metro Tech Center in downtown Brooklyn. The one being built in Pelham Parkway is the ultimate catastrophe center and is being built to withstand being being hit by bombs or jumbo jets. That's why there are no window. It will handle all police and fire dept communications in addition to 911 calls in the event of a really major citywide emergency, if the Brooklyn one goes down.Day to day 911 will still be run out of the Brooklyn Center I think.
