What a great vibrant area, outdoor cafés, wine bars, old guys in lawn chairs smoking cigars, older ladies and kids on the sidewalk playing bingo, a lot of Spanish being spoken. This is New York at its best. It almost feels like Europe or South America, that wonderful, life is to be enjoyed vibe.

It's funny, I was in Williamsburg the other night and while there are some nice cafés and stuff it always feels more contrived, stiff and self-conscious in comparison. Don't get me wrong while I still like soho and the west village IMHO, NYC doesn't need another.

I hope dyckman Inwood doesn't loose that wonderful neighborhood feel. It along with Venice in LA is one of my favorite areas to go and chill especially in the summer. And that joint Marina on the water while I'd give it a D rating as a bar restaurant offers up really fantastic outdoor seating and unparalleled views of the Hudson and GW bridge.

Interestingly that strip is pretty new--most of those places opened in the last few years.

One of my favorite areas as well. It does get a little rowdy though. But I hope parts of the western Bronx replicate the area. A civil melting pot of cultures that is welcoming to the middle-class.

I agree. Lots to see and feel in that area. Once you hit the 125th St. area is gets lame again.

The other day I walked from 168th and Amsterdam to 125th. This is old school NYC. LOVE IT.

yes I often bike over there. i like to bike thru the ballfields at the end of Dyckman all the way to the end where the fence is open and you can actually sit on the shore

Dyckman off B'way has its charms. the bike shop, the diner, the rest area, the laid back atmosphere

Are you sure you are not seeing the first signs of gentrification?

Oh yeah, all those able-bodied people hanging out and "keeping it real" instead of working is really what makes NYC great
