400 desk cops are scheduled to patrol in operation Summer all Out for 90 days.

Will this mean most of them would be required to hit the gym too?

Seriously though, you think this will make a dent?

Nope. Most of these cops have spent a considerable percentage of their career avoiding police work at all costs. Who really expects that rousing them out of their cubby holes will suddenly turn them into hardened crime fighters?

It's just not fair to demand police officers leave an air conditioned office.
What's next, making them WALK?

"There's a holdup in the Bronx, Brooklyn's broken out in fights. There's a traffic jam in Harlem that's backed up to Jackson Heights..."

Most will use up as much vacation leave as possible, while using their 'hooks' to find an inside job in the precincts. Some will sustain an OTJ injury or illness, until this policy is ended. Those that make it onto the street, will be oblivious to all crime, unless a perp accidentally crashes into them!
As always, the 80/20 rule applies: 80% of the work is done by 20% of the workforce.

600 new recruits will also be patrolling.

Do you think the veteran officers will make the new recruits do the heavier duties?

You are about to see some of the best passive-aggressive policing in NYC's history. *LOL*

Yes, these officers will hit the streets but as another poster stated unless something happens right under their noses (and if even then) there are plenty of ways to kill seven hours on tour.

With all the pressure the NYPD gets these days, I would rather do desk duty.
