I have low back issues and was told yoga would help me IF I had the proper training. I was also told that in a class of 20 people or more you probably won't get the necessary instruction.

To all the Yogies out there. True or False ?

I also loathe having to pay $20 for a class when spending $20 on good food would probably make me relaxed just the same.

I don't want to enter a a yoga assembly line if his makes sense ? I did dance classes a while ago and it was so crowded it was a waste of money and effort.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question, but this is a very good yoga for back pain DVD, and very easy. Amazon.com: Viniyoga Therapy for the Low Back, Sacrum & Hips with Gary Kraftsow: Gary Kraftsow, Ian Albert and Mark Holmes: Movies & TV

With active back issues, it's very important that the OP do at least a few classes with an instructor first before even contemplating going it alone with a video - alignment is extremely important and an instructor can point out and correct alignment. Bad alignment can make back issues worse. If the instructor is made aware of the issues beforehand then they can also suggest modifications to certain postures.

I get what you are saying though, CNYC. Unfortunately, Midtown isn't the best neighborhood for the yoga environment you seek, you would need to look more towards a studio in more of a "neighborhood". You might want to go onto Yelp and search Yoga in midtown and read the reviews for the various studios and look at their websites. If willing to go beyond Midtown, there is Integral Yoga Institute on West 13th Street near Seventh Ave. - lots of classes, reasonable prices and class sizes. They may have more of a spiritual emphasis than you want though.
