In 2.5 years since establishment of SA list from exam 9008 101 lists had been certified for a total of about 300 vacancies (number of vacancies imprecise due to unclear number of those at the Open Pool in 2019 as well as known variances between numbers at list establishment and at the actual pools).
There are some good one, but you have to work there in order to find out, or know someone who already work in the unit. That’s why is important to ask questions during interview. You can get a sense of how the work environment is if you ask the right question. You do what you can in your power to make the best decision at the moment.
Even if you work in a good environment, people retire, and no one know how the new boss may be. I seen people who worked in a good unit before, but with structure change in the unit, the nice work environment suddenly becomes hostile and toxic. The lucky one get to retire. The one has no choice continue to work there until they can land another job, or simply suffer until they retire. I think this is part of the reason why you see disgruntled city employees, they are not happy with their job, but they got no other choice.
That's because most of these positions are BS jobs. People have 10 hours of work max a week.

While that might be the case sometimes, you should not generalize like that. Also, apart from workload changes due to restructuring or responsibility shifts there are duties that due to technology/system changes increased from 2 hours per month to 20 hours per week for the same thing.
In other news, contrary to what DCAS stated about Associate SA Open Competitive list, two of the recent ASA certs (ACS and Sanitation) utilized the new list from exam 9061. Also it appears that the new Admin SA Promotional list had been established from exam 9536.
All the best to everyone in the New Year.

3 more Associate SA certs utilized the new list from Open Competitive exam 9061 (HRA, Homeless, Buildings). It looks like the old list is finally dead.
The first uses of Admin SA Promo exam 9536 in certs is now in the books as well (Law and ACS).

Anyone know how promotions from Staff Analyst level 1 to level 2 work? After department approves, does it go to OMB, DCAS, or both? About how long does it take after the department approves- weeks or months?
Do you have to be working with the city for two years for such a promotion to get final approval?
I am also wondering about how different levels work.
I noticed that NYS civil service publishes bargained salary grades for various titles. Each grade has a range of minimum to maximum salary figures. Do the SAT, SA, ASA titles have their own salary ranges? I tried digging in the Union's website but can only see current information for Admin SA. Thanks
