Some time this week, I'm coming up to brooklyn for a few days before helping my brother move back this way. What is there to do, and on the off chance I can get my bike on the bus, how far from brooklyn is it to nyc, like downtown?

Brooklyn is part of NYC and has its own downtown. If you are referring to Manhattan it has a downtown as well as a midtown area. I would also suggest posting your question on the correct forum (meaning the NYC forum rather than the NY state forum).

I didn't know I was in the wrong area, I wasn' sure what part if new york it belonged to, specifically. And I was referring to downtown nyc- time square, I didn't think each borrough had it's own downtown. From brooklyn to new york city area of new york section, I don't know how to put it now, since each section must be like a province or something of New York.

Bikes are not allowed on city buses, but you can ride your bike into the city (somewhat confusingly, we refer to the borough of Manhattan as "the city" even though all five boroughs are legally part of New York City).

Time Square is in midtown. You can't ride your bike there or you will hit drunk Elmo.

Manhattan is actually a lot easier to understand than Brooklyn. Downtown is the bottom of the island and uptown is the top (north side)

Downtown Brooklyn is something that real estate agents made up.

This isn't true. Downtown Brooklyn is a designated Central Business District.

I've considered it Downtown Brooklyn my whole life. Dumbo and Boerum Hill are the made up nabes. I would have just called that whole area Downtown Brooklyn back in the day.

Can you name a Fortune 500 company that is headquartered there?

No, my brother got me a ticket for the GoTo bus to get there. They can carry a bike in the cargo hold depending on the room.
