I see you really couldn't argue with the cons (because they're true to day in 2014 not just the 80's as some poster mentioned) that I listed so you deflected from that by asking why am I still here.

I was chained (not literal jail or prison) here for reasons that I can't go into a public forum. Suffice to say "God is good!" because currently I'm working out of state over 1,300 miles away in a different region of the country. English is the official language. It's clean here, people have manners and exhibit home-training. Children don't run wild in the neighborhoods. I don't hear anyone talking loud in the street, spitting all over the place, no graffiti, and I don't hear people using the N word in conversations nor the F-word yelled out loud even once in the two months I've been here. Public transportation is not holding people wallets hostage by constantly announcing fare increases. I've been to museums, beautiful parks, and a heritage center. All of this good American standard of living and the population doesn't have to make Donald Trump's salary to maintain it. It's a beautiful thing.

However, I have heard a gunshots and I'm sure it was a gun and not fireworks but no police sirens or reported deaths or injuries the next day. I guess it was Bob or Bill and his buddies getting ready to take their families to their lake house an hour drive away for the weekend but wanted to make sure the firearm was still in good working order for a little pheasant hunting or something. Well, I've completed the work project and scheduled to leave very soon but it was a nice get-away.

Sounds like you lived in the hood. That makes your knowledge of the city even more questionable since living in the hood is never a good quality of life, wether it's in Wisconsin or NYC. Last time I checked the hoods in large Midwest cities are a bit more rough than the hoods out east?

There are certain careers, that if you not in NYC, you're just not going to get the career development, make the contacts, get noticed/make a name for yourself in the industry, etc., that you do in NYC. That's a big reason why a lot of people come here. In that sense, it's far from overrated, and people are willing to put up with NYC's issues to get that.

Correct and this is exactly how the fashion industry is.

I agree with this as well...just like for acting, LA is the place to be. Modeling, probably best off here in NYC.

It all depends what you want out of life. Do I think NYC is overrated? for me, yes, but for many others, no. That's what makes the world go around, we all like different things.

There's another factor, at least as far as cost is concerned. Why is it so expensive in NYC, because there are a lot of ways for a lot of people to make a lot of money. And these people bid up the cost of stuff. A lot of it is very much that simple. You have to get that much more ahead to just break even compared to other places, where there are not as many people making so much money.

You will make less in some other states, but you probably will get a lot more for your money...(bigger house, etc)....

It's not that I deflected from it, it's just that those things bother you so much, I decided to ask why you hadn't moved yet, or why are you still putting up with it. If you are uncomfortable with putting on a public forum why you are "chained" here, DM me so that I can get some understanding of why you remain in a place you seem to dislike so much. I'm just asking honest questions with a hope for honest answers.

Meh....more to mow and more to clean....either you're going to do it yourself, or pay somebody to do it. Both IMO equally sucks. I want to spend my weekends drinking beer, not housework, or having to worry about if somebody did their job properly. I do enough of that during the week and when the weekend comes I want a break.
