Starbucks menu in Japan, it's pretty close to NYC prices after you do the conversion.
For a Venti coffee 430 yen which is about $4.20 which is a little more than NYC price but not even close to the $7-10 people claim.
Never claimed it was a Starbucks price; I said it was in a department store.
Food can be cheap in Tokyo just like is in NYC. Just like you mention udon and beef for $7 in Tokyo being cheaper than it is in NYC, the same can be said about literally every other type of cuisine in Tokyo besides Japanese food.
Tokyo, like New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world. The Economist labeled it as the most expensive city in the world, and Business Insider stated that it's more expensive than New York.
Having spent a summer abroad in Tokyo I'd say that I loved the experience. The fast-paced energy easily rivals that of NYC. It did lack in the diverse food options offered here. I think it's quite obvious to state that things like Sushi and Ramen were better there. I also prefer the architecture and skyline in New York. Shibuya is a nice comparison to Times Square, but native New Yorkers don't spend much time in Times Square anyway.
I've been to both cities, enjoyed both thoroughly. Both very different cities but if I had to choose, it would be Tokyo:
- Incredibly clean
- Clean public toilets everywhere
- Excellent public transport
- No useless scumbags/panhandlers etc trying to get a dollar out of you at every chance. I can take a photo and not worry about being yelled at (which happened numerous times in NYC).
- Very safe, never once felt threatened or endangered.
Tokyo is a tourist town. Period. Recently they made new laws because of the ( idiot ) visitors from other nations. Tokyo is tourist town. Tourist town........... Manhattan = tourist town = not real place = the living room of your place.

Your post literally does not make sense. Yes, Tokyo and NYC get a lot of visitors; any place worth visiting in the world does. Still both places are amazing to live in and visit.
Tokyo > NYC in just about every way ( except diversity). It's even a better value for your money and more stuff is affordable there.
I was going to write this almost verbatim.
However, some people might enjoy lack of diversity (i.e. ghetto thugs, homeless people, etc.)
What stands out the most is that everything is incredibly efficient and clean in Tokyo. You have to experience it yourself.
