I used an Uber today to get from Jersey City to Manhattan and noticed a $20 surcharge for using the Holland Tunnel. Is this more, less, or the same as if I were to use a normal cab?
I'm pretty sure it was and obviously cars for hire have to make money somehow. Just wondering if cabs charge less for it. I mean, that's over double the toll. Cabs may charge less - I am aware too that the toll is only paid if you're coming into NY, not out of NY
I drive a cab in Boston and also joined UberTaxi, an Uber service not available in all cities with Uber X and/or Uber Black.
I assume UberTaxi is not available in Jersey City...so it must have been Uber X or Uber Black or SUV...whatever. UberTaxi uses the actual cab meter plus mandatory tip...with no surge pricing. On UberTaxi, I can type in the wrong fare if not careful; the other Ubers have no cab meter, of course, but use some type of built-in estimator on mileage and time? So I assume he can't mistype or purposefully mistype your charges. Plus, no need to tip on these Uber rides, although they appreciate it.
All I know from my UberTaxi customers who probably use other Uber options is that Uber customer support, via e-mail, can be responsive.
I would e-mail them, and ask the tolls from your Point A to Point B. I have heard of customers getting refunded, and sometimes an additional partial credit for a future ride for certain complaints.
See if that works.
Good luck. i'd be interested in their response.
