How do I go about getting glasses for myself or my kids? Do I have to call the union first to get a voucher? Or do I buy the glasses then get a refund from the union? I'm not sure if I'm confusing this with how to get prescription cards or not

call the union to get a voucher. I think you call first, someone will answer shortly. I don't wear glasses lol

Two completelyyyyyyyy different garages lol. One dumps, one doesn't, completely different neighborhoods and it'll take you way longer to get any seniority or money shifts in 10 as a newer guy. Any reason those are your only two choices?

Do you get to work in most garages to see which one is best for you? Or do you just go from word of mouths?

Is Brooklyn 12 a decent garage if you're just getting on?

Are there any garages where guys just getting on can make collection or recycling?

It's a combination depending on where you go. I tell all the new hires to make friends, get Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, phone moves whatever because friends can be your eyes and ears in other garages. I couldn't tell you where Q12 is on a map of Queens lol...but I know a lot about how they run from friends. It's obviously not as good as working there but it's something.

Some garages might send you out of town a lot. I started inBronx west and we always went out of town to various boros. Working out of town won't be the same as working at the garage but again it gives you ideas (and let's you see the board and seniority list without looking too obvious). You'll probably never get to work in "most garages" from one place. I.E. in my second garage I got to work new places I never did in my 1st. Thigh Bronx west probably gets you to the most varied lol.

Just make sure wherever you transfer, know how many you got beat, how many total, check for tissues (what good is 5 guys beat if they're all on ez pack tissues?) And look at the board. Hoe many nights etc, what are guys above and below you doing?

I know a lot of guys that randomly transfer or transfer closest to home without seeing if that garage works for what they want.

At least that's the idea for us junior pukes. I'm not sure if senior guys have to look for other stuff but we don't have to worry about that for quite a while
