Even if you're of Caribbean descent, the fact that you're American or living in America, people will definitely take the opportunity to try you if you present yourself in that fashion.

Not a good point since in most countries especially in Latin American countries you have to stash away your jewelry and watch your attire. There many places where you can't wear your jewelry freely.

I doubt your fam is from West Indies you probably have a great grandfather who is from there and use that to pigeon hold you knowing about the culture.

Here is more evidence of Trinidad's Carnival assimilating a lot of customs from Brazil and other outside influence.

Indeed, Trinidad’s Carnival has started to resemble that of “Brazil in a lot of ways,” said Winston Peters, the minister of arts and multiculturalism, “where you just have decorated bikinis and stuff with a headpiece. I can’t be against that because that’s what people want. At the same time, we don’t want the traditional Mas of our country to die.”
The government is considering increasing the prize money for the bands with the best costumes, and it has started a band with which anyone can march in a homemade costume. Those efforts come after the creation of a Mas Academy that teaches and certifies people in Carnival trades.

Quote:
Mr. Ackin said that Tribe and Bliss imported about 20 percent of their costume pieces, a necessity to meet their demand and get high-quality production unavailable in Trinidad.

Perhaps the most contentious aspect of the bikini costumes is that many bands import some of them from China. Mr. Peters has proposed putting a 2,000 percent tax on imported costumes.

Sure buddy. My mother and father were born down there and took us down there numerous times. I've probably been to more islands in the Carribean than you! I've been to:

Trinidad
St. Vincent
Jamaica
Cayman Islands
Bahamas
Haiti
Puerto Rico
Curacao
St. Thomas
Barbados
Virgin Islands

And I'm sure I'm forgetting some!

I was asking where in the Caribbean are your parents from? And not wearing any jewelry or flashy attire is common flippin knowledge, you're not really saying anything. You act as if its some lawless place where you got rushed , of course if you were raised in America your going to be made a target but that's any place Americans go because the criminal elements sees Americans as easy prey. I would like to know if you navigated through any of these bad areas on the islands you speak of.
