Hi! I love how helpful all you Bronxites (past and present) have been to us tourists as we seek to navigate the Bronx! Thank you! Now it's my turn: I have a job interview on Prospect Avenue, right above the CBE. I have to walk from the West Farms Square/East Tremont Avenue 2 stop to the school or take a bus. I've Google Earthed it, and all I can see for sure is how the area has lots of high-rise apartment buildings instead of the blocks of those old tenement and row houses (that I love btw-reminds me of where I lived in Newark) that I have seen so much of before. So do I cancel the interview or go ahead with it?

Cancel it.

I'm sure you have heard about all the South Bronx teachers, including myself, who get robbed, beaten, stabbed, shot and raped on the way to work every day.

Get a job in a nice low crime area like Newark.

LOL "nice low crime area like Newark" hehehe. That is EXACTLY what I find intriguing about the subject of the South Bronx, because I am coming from East Newark, which is poor but tame compared to some parts of Newark (and even the scarier parts don't scare me much). I guess when you are "from" a place that is notorious for all the wrong reasons your perspective is different than those who only have an area's reputation to go by. Thanks bluedog2.

I'm not "from" The Bronx.I'm not even "from" NY, though I have probably been here longer than you have been alive and live and work in The Bronx now.

I think if you ignore reputation and do a little research on crime rates you will be stunned to see how The Bronx compares to other major cities in the US.

It's an "A" school by the way,I'd go to the interview if I were you.The principal has a good rep!

It's not a great neighborhood but there are much worse. You'll be fine.

"A" schools are not that common in NYC,even in the best neighborhoods.
