So I'm looking at a room and it looks like it's in the Corona area. I don't have a lot of experience in that area so I'm not sure if it's a decent place. It's 97th St between Christie and 55th. I walked through the area and didn't find it crazy or anything. But of course it was the daytime. 700 with all utilities included private bath with shower. Not a bad deal at all.
Is this area relatively safe? I will be having my 3 year old daughter over weekends so I want an area I feel comfortable with her being in. I see the Louis Simone Park and Newton Playground in the area. Are those places decent? I'm a 29 year old white male who is moving from Briarwood. Any help is much appreciated!
Corona is okay. Some posters here like to act like it's the king of hell holes but it really isn't. Basically the area is dirty and overcrowded, and not really a very "nice" area, but outside of Lefrak I don't consider it dangerous. It is around 80 to 90 percent Hispanic, mainly Mexicans, Columbians, Ecuadorians etc. At least from where you'll be you will be walking distance from Queens Center Mall and the R and M train.
I expected it to be a little more dirty and middle class than Forest Hills or Kew Gardens, but I don't know if that translates to crime. I want to be able to walk around with my daughter and go to the park without having to deal with any nonsense. If it's like that, I'm happy. If not, then I have to keep looking.
I don't know that exact area, but that general area of Corona, bordering Elmhurst and Rego Park, near Queens Center Mall and Rego Center Mall, never seems too bad to me. You'd also be quite close to the Queens Zoo and the other stuff at the Flushing Meadow Park, which might be nice to go to with a child.
Was up there today on a tres leche run. A convenient location for the price. Walking distance to the Woodhaven stop and within walking to more mall shopping than probably anywhere else in the country.
These are just some of the recent crimes in Corona Queens
Honesty you will be lying if you say Corona Queens isn't a sketchy area its obviously no South Bronx but its definitely not no Forest Hills , Corona Queens is a sketchy neighborhood packed with a bunch of Hispanics mostly Mexicans/Dominicans I would just say keep on a eye on your daughter because its not worst but its definitely not a neighborhood you would categorize as good if you want more info look at the crime statistics on the NYPD page of the 110th pct and 115pct both cover Corona and their crime rates are not that good compared to other neighborhoods that have like 509 and 600 crimes so far compared to both of these pcts that already have 1000 but look it up
That area is close to the Lefrak City. I live in Corona but closer to Roosevelt. It is nicer closer to Roosevelt, and closer to Jackson Heights, and towards Elmhurst.
So if I stay away from Lefrak, should I be good? Just head down Junction maybe?
