This might be a stretch but..

are their any places (CT, NJ etc) that are (in order of importance):

1) safe
2) under 30 minutes on the train to NYC
3) have an urban-ish feel to them.

Thank you so much!!!

Thanks guys! Are some of places in Brooklyn a good choice? Are there any low key safe neighoborhoods where I can get a 2 bedroom with a washer and dryer for around $2,300?
Thanks!

Bay Ridge is a great choice but the commute can take up to 45 minutes to get to certain parts of Manhattan.

Washer/dryer in the apartment? It would be like manna from heaven.

Washers and dryers are very rare in NYC. Get ready to visit your local laundrymat.

You will probably stand a better chance of getting a washer and dryer in a 2 or 3 family house then in your typical apartment. Once you find an apartment, you can always discuss purchasing your own washer and dryer and the landlord may not disapprove of it. They may ask for more rent due to higher water costs though. And the dryer would have to be one that runs on the basic current and most likely an electric dryer. Using a small electric dryer is a pain though because it takes a long time for things to dry. You could also luck up with an apartment that has a laundry room. If not, laundromats abound throughout the city and a lot of them are open 24 hours.

For 2300 you can find an apartment in numerous areas in Brooklyn. It will all depend on your neighborhood preference.

Staten Island is more "-ish" than urban, and even that's a stretch.

On the PATH? When I've taken it -- usually on weekends/at night to/from Newark, it seems like less, and Newark is further than Hoboken.
