I am trying to debate weather I should sell my co-op and move. I make okay money ( I am an RN) and was lucky enough to inherit my place so I only pay 400 a month in maintenance but I still feel broke. I have to drive for work and the schools by me are bad so I have to pay for private school. For those who moved did you find what you where looking for. I know if I sell my place I wont be able to afford to move back.
OP take some weekend trips to places that interest you! Pretty much everywhere is cheaper outside of NYC. Although I bet someone is going to quote this and then list off a bunch of places that aren't.
we tried it by buying a 2nd home in the poconos to eventually retire to. after 5 years of living that life we sold it and are back here in nyc to stay.
the city offers everything we would need or want in retirement.
I've moved out of the city twice now and come back both times. I missed the city and also there were better career options here. I lived in the Bay Area in California the first time and in rural Vermont the second time. Obviously it depends on what you want and what's important to you, but even when I thought I was fed up with the city, I missed the energy, the culture, the food, and the opportunity.

I move to CT in 06 and of all the things I miss about NYC are the born and raised New Yorkers I do miss the other stuff like NYC Pizza but New Haven and some other parts of CT has good pizza and the bread but I am only an hour away so I can visit friends and the city anytime
