*Sigh*

One had hoped even though knowing the prognosis (as given in the media) Mrs. Tarlov would somehow pull through. So very sad, and with RH beginning in two days...

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family...

Actually from what one has read the biker was in the proper lane (bike) but swerved to avoid hitting something or someone else. Either way the man was in NYPD custody for several hours after the fact and let go. If LE thought there was a glimmer of *something* to hold the man on they would have arrested and then let the DA's office sort things out.

Nothing new here, SNAFU.

NYPD always goes into "blitz" mode whenever there is an any sort of accident where pedestrian is seriously injured and or dies. After a few weeks the heat dies down and the extra enforcement goes away. Longest running cat and mouse game in town.

Also as noted the NYPD was mainly cracking down on the West Drive near the scene of the Tarlov accident. However elsewhere in the Park as the Post reported it was business as usual for most bikers.

Long story short NYPD does *NOT* have the resources to dedicate full time beefed up enforcement. Officers would have to be transferred from elsewhere and you can hear the cries that there are better uses for NYPD manpower than standing in Central Park giving out tickets.

May not get to do a bike ride later tonight so won't be able to tell if this "enforcement" goes on after the sun sets.

Again this dog and pony show won't last past Halloween if things run true to form. Certainly will be gone by the first frost/cold weather sets in say around Thanksgiving.

What could change things is if the City along with that biker are hauled into court by the estate of the late Mrs. Tarlov and or her family. That is pretty much the only thing that makes NYC take notice. Though with BdeB shoveling out money by the tens of millions who knows.

How ridiculous of a statement. This situation is terrible for all involved. A woman lost her life and a man's life will never be the same again. It's crazy how some people reduce situations down to a black and white matter. Maybe your brains aren't capable of processing this but it's not that black and white. The bicyclist, however reckless, never stepped out the door with the intention to kill anybody and he feels more grief than anyone here with their armchair judgement. Stuff it. It's easy to sit here and make flip comments, god knows what kind of reckless things any of us do on a day to day basis.

I choose not to stuff it. Reckless actions which result in innocent death should be subject to the death penalty at trial. It is disgusting to me that society accepts dregs like this man as being worthy of sympathy.
