for much of this year Ive been taking livery cabs contracted by access a ride to get me to work and medical appointments due to my cancer treatments

these are not access a ride cabs per se but a taxi authorization system where you make a reservation and get authorization to take a livery cab. you get a receipt from the driver then mail it in to access a ride for reimbursement

my experience with just about all the cab drivers and the services has been excellent except for one driver who takes me from work to home. the cab company is situated by my office

he insists on chatting with me about the same topic--what am i gonna do when i get home, why don't i have a girlfriend, does it get lonely, and makes dumb comments about the ladies and relationships. when i try to play along he acts like he doesn't know WTF I said to him or just doesn't answer. every ride its the same thing. i told him about my cancer treatments and how tired they make me and how i just go home to sleep(same convo i make with other cab drivers but the convos work) in the hopes that he would leave me alone but he ignored it. today he took me to Starbucks and asks where im going after. as i was exiting the cab he said some kind of old fashioned comment about women and as i closed the door i muttered "******* moron" to myself

Id love to pull a Clint Eastwood on him and tell him " just shut up and drive" but that may make him think im a psycho. maybe i should tell him that im seeing an escort when i get home and that he should try one himself??!!

this irritates me cos i demand very little from others when it comes to making chat. obviously the guy feels a need to chat. i just cant stand people like this

any ideas as to how to handle people like this?

Politely tell him that you're too tired to talk.
Then, don't talk!

You could tell him that you need some quiet because you think you are about to throw up. That should shut him up. He probably won't want someone vomiting in his cab.

So the guy is lonely and is only social outlet is likely talking to his passengers, and he sucks at small talk. Big deal. Be an adult and tell him you don't want to talk.

When I used to take cabs with regular drivers, I had a female who would always ask me if I was going to work (I never was, but she would always assume that I was. I guess her assumption was that I took cabs so much that I had to be constantly working to afford them as if I was supposedly too young to actually earn a nice salary and not work 7 days a week) . Then she would proceed to ask me about this that and the third and I would try to politely make small talk without going into details until one day she started up and before I knew it I said to her "Boy you sure do ask a lot of questions" and then laughed afterwards as if to imply that she is A) too f*cking nosy, and B) doesn't realize how impolite her nosiness is and that she needed to **** with the one thousand questions. That shut her up good. Some people are just ill mannered or are so brazen that they think it's okay to talk about anything unless you make it clear that it isn't. The guy that you're speaking about is just there to drive customers from point A to point B, not make lewd remarks. The fact that this guy has the need to talk about women 24/7 indicates that he clearly has an issue that may stem from childhood with his need to feel "macho". Some guys are like that. They have to talk about women every minute and what they do with them etc. etc. etc. to boost their egos. Borderline obsession.

It's amazing that some people don't understand the concept of what is appropriate and what isn't. I hate to be rude and try to discreetly give people the hint and when they don't get that, that's when I can be blunt and downright nasty.

this guy is dumpy and dull too. socially awkward. ever notice that unless a guy is narcissistic, a really confident guy will always be appropriate with others
