It's not just NYC but many other cities nationwide and internationally are experiencing a hipster-boom and gentrification of poorer neighborhoods.

Agreed. Check out Washington DC. That city is gentrifying even faster.

^ hipsters in DC?

They must be the last dragons. Why hipsters would want to inconvenience themselves to live in the trap is beyond me tho. Most people want to get out of the ghetto and the hipsters want to live in the ghetto lol.

Yes there's hipsters in DC. You'll find them in the U Street, Shaw, Columbia Heights, Logan Circle, H Street/Atlas District, Bloomingdale, Takoma, Truxton Circle, and Brookland neighborhoods.

Jazz musicians in the late 1930's and early 1940's.

I think you really have "Hipster Envy". Hey I give them a lot of credit moving into some of these places. Gone are the bad old days of boarded up rowhouses and crackhead zombies roaming the streets. Now we have micro brew beer bars and Whole Food Markets. What I don't get is their utter fascination with the Gowanus Canal! I mean who would ever kayak on that body of water or live on a houseboat that floats on it. Some of them do. I'm scratching my head on that one.

No one envys hipsters, believe me. As for their love for the Gowanus Canal, it seems the definition of hygiene is a moving target for some folks.
