MTA’s capital plan includes new Elmhurst LIRR station :: Second Ave. Sagas

So Elmhurst is getting a new LIRR station in the next few years. Interesting. At least there's redundancy in case something happens and the Queens Blvd line is temporarily down.

I'm all for optimizing the use of existing infrastructure such as the commuter rail lines. I do think this needs to be do in conjunction with some major projects to change the commute rail network such as through-running tracks within the city (best would be making LIRR, Metro-North and NJ Transit compatible with each other and through-running each other's tracks so you don't have constant bottlenecking with the turnarounds at terminals within the city allowing for higher frequencies for all of these), better fare integration among these systems and the subway, and an expansion of the CityTicket program.

I thought you said that Elmhurst would be the new dumping ground for the poor now that Bed-Stuy is 110% gentrified? Odd that they'd get any type of investment.
