I got spit in my face by a person with mental illness today. I called the cops and when they arrived they told me they had dealt with her before.
But before the cops could apprehend her, she got away but going in an apartment building. The door was locked after she went in so the cops couldn't get in. They said there was nothing they could do, so she basically got away.
Afterwards, the cops told me they can't lock up people with mental problems.He also said if they would have appended her the only thing they could have done is take her to the hospital and she would be out the next day. Somebody please tell me that isn't true. There is no way she can go around assaulting people and nothing happen to her.
This happened on the block I live on, so I am sure to see her again. What should I do? If i see her again, do i call the cops and if they catch her, do i tell them I want to press charges?
Also, i want them to catch her is so that I can find out if she has any diseases. She spit in my face and it might have gotten in my eye

No one can give you her medical history unless she approves it due to HIPAA laws. As for breaking down her door for what amounts to Harrasment, not happening. It seems that everyone wants to cops to break laws when it is for THEM, but anything else, the cops are "corrupt", "murderous" pigs.
Please don't take this the wrong way but spitting in a person's face is not assault but harassment, a violation. Unfortunately, for any arrest to be made, the person who spit on you would have to have done it in front of a cop for the cop to arrest her. Honestly, even if it was done in front of a cop, the cop probably would of tried to get out of arresting the person.
Haven't you read this forum before? Having mentally ill people spit in your face is just one of those things you should be okay with when you are allowed to live in this tropical paradise.
I miss the good ol' days of New York, when this wouldn't be an issue. Only gentrifiers would have an issue with a disease riddled person spit in their face.
Well the first thing you did wrong was expecting the NYPD to do anything right
