Seriously. What does your average upwardly mobile family do with one of these behemoths along Argyle, Westminster, Stratford, Rugby etc. unless they are planning on having six kids. No one has six kids anymore so I am confused.
And I don't quite get the appeal of living in a place that looks on the outside like a version of (kind of) well-heeled Connecticut. Why go through all the trouble of manicuring your lawn, putting down $75/gallon on Benjamin Moore paint, and parking two Subaru Foresters in the driveway if you have to pick up the Subway bags of your lawn, listen to sirens and increasingly worry about getting shot?

I had some family that lived on Marlborough Road back in the day. Even when I was young, I was so shocked to see the contrast if you walked a block or 2 north to Caton Avenue, which was a pretty bad neighborhood in the 1980s and 1990s.

Why "increasingly worry about getting shot"? Is crime going up?
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloa...s/cs070pct.pdf, Looks like shooting are up. Also when a neighborhood main stay gets murdered for no reason. That can have more of effect then let's say some trouble maker met his maker.
That's the Ditmars part of Astoria in Queens, the OP is talking about Ditmas (no r) Park in Brooklyn (East-ish of Kensington).
