I most certainly do! As others told you, you take whatever the rent is, multiply it by 40 and that generally tells you what you can afford, at least according to what landlords go by. so if your making 85,000 then according to landlord logic you should qualify for 2125. You getting a 1600 a month place means you will be 525 in the positive. I am personally paying 200 a month less than what I can qualify for, and I have a lot left over at the end of the month, monteraly. So if you netting $525 a month in relation to what you actually qualify for, you will be in a really good situation! You could probably even pay a lot less than 1600 if its a one bedroom. You just need to avoid the areas that all the none NYers are flocking to because they heard it was the cool place to be.
