Why are there so many people walking around the city wearing Bloomingdales' headphones (with the big Bloomingdales logo on them)?

Those aren't Bloomingdales' headphones. They are called "Beats" headphones. They seem to be popular with the youth, though I cannot vouch for the sound quality, but they're like Apple products. Everyone wants them!

I personally do not own a pair, however, from what I hear the noise cancellation function allows you to block outside noise. In a busy city like NYC, that's pretty much ideal. On the subway, you can block it out, through the traffic in the streets, etc.

I agree that it looks like the Bloomingdales' logo! ha

Great let's block out all noise , why don't we add a cellular phone while texting. Not paying attention to your soundings is a perfect crime victim.

I had to delete my message because I felt it was a little too harsh. lol Let me put this in a nicer way. Some people prefer to block out annoyances- ie. people asking for money on the subway, mariachi band and other aspiring musicians/dancers, metro stop announcements (at every.single.stop). I don't think you are going to be a victim by sitting on a subway in a car listening to music. If you are going to be a victim, I'd be willing to bet money you would have been one regardless if you had your headphones in. If you are trying.

Did you ever think about some people who live with noisy neighbors, who have to hear their parents arguing 24/7? Do you think that maybe it's nice to escape for awhile?

As for adding a cell while texting, well some people are better at multitasking than others. As long as you don't do it behind a wheel, it's legal and your right to do so.

But isn't all the things stated above being blocked out the reasons people moved here for. Leaving their tiny little boring places with no culture or adventure to live in the city that never sleeps?

What about the people born and raised here who have no choice but to live her? Not everyone is a transplant (although a good number is). Maybe NYC's glitz and glamour wore off on me 3 years later, but I for one have headphones in on my way to work, and my way home from work. BTW, people hassling you for money on the subway isn't my idea of 'culture' or 'adventure.' lol

Idk I can see why someone would want to cancel outside noises so they can listen to their music of choice. Just like people read a book, or play games on their smartphone to pass the time. Listening to music is no different. It is a leisure activity and I really don't see the problem with it.

NYC is the city that never sleeps. So you won't miss a thing by shutting out for a few hours. It will still be awake the next time you go out. Just my $0.02.

Not to mention you can get hit by a car or someone in a bike who is not obeying basic traffic rules. The subway is probably ok but you'll miss the occasional public announcements telling you "this is the last stop, everybody off", etc.
