Not sure if many people know this, but NYSC is quietly switching over to a 19.99, no contract model. They started in the suburbs and it has now moved to some of the city gyms. It allows access to only one gym, but does allow participation in group classes. It is similar to other bargain gyms by allowing a guest and not offering towel service. I am assuming this is in response to a steep stock price drop this year, which was likely due to Blink and other reasonable alternatives. Is NYSC on its last legs or reinventing itself?

NYSC is a pretty terrible deal for what they charge in the city. Might as well go to Planet Fitness and get the free pizza.
I just checked nysc website and it still shows my membership type (Core: unlimited access to single club) at 69.99/month.
Where is that 19.99/month no contract info?
The thing about NYSC that I like is that they have a lot of locations. There is one close to where I work and another close to where I live. There is a Blink close to my home, but it doesn't have weight equipment that NYSC has.
I'm willing to pay a little more for the equipment and the convenience of locations--but not a lot more. I'll be renegotiating my rate soon.
They offered this plan at the NYSC gym my wife goes to on Long Island. $149 initial fee followed by a $19 monthly fee. If that is the case then the it will just get even more crowded than it already is. I never thought that gym was worth $70 a month but the steep price may have kept undesirables at bay. Now that it is this cheap it will be a zoo at the gym and I'm sure they will take away things such as towels and limit showers.
I always thought NYSC had good equipment and was worth the $60-80 per month fee. They tend to have more of a normal crowd compared to the stereotypical NYC gym.

Sorry to hear their business model is failing.
I too liked NYSC enough. It was decent. Not so highbrow as Equinox but I just like to work out. Not people watch, network and make a scene.
