Does anyone know who or which city department takes care of the Christmas decorations in the city? I would like to contact them with suggestion.

Thanks!

I suggest you call 311 and perhaps they can tell you who to speak to.

Try the Parks Department. I don't know why, but that's the first thing that come to mind.

Just curious--what's your recommendation?

I don't think there is any city department that has anything to do with Christmas decorations. They are usually funded and installed privately, mostly by local BID's(business improvement districts),community organizations, religious organizations, etc. The decorations in various neighborhood business areas are paid for by the merchants in those areas. They also pay for the electricity to put the lights on.

I know a few years ago there were no Christmas decorations in Morris Park one year because a lot of the business owners refused to chip in and pay.The one's who wanted the lights refused to foot the whole bill so they just had nothing.

Thanks I will try that.

I wanted them to put much more Christmas decorations, especially in midtown on busier streets like 5th and 6th Avenue. Christmas lights hanging on wires from building to another building, and on light poles would we awesome.

Look an example of how London did it...

The Parks Dept has no jurisdiction over city streets or holiday decorations.

Start with the 5th Avenue BID.They are in charge and pay for all such things on 5th Ave between 48th and 60th .

Quelle surprise. The 311 people are morons. They can do nothing but read some very limited information off their computer screens.

Excuse me for being a wet blanket, but in a city that apparently can't even afford to have adequate ordinary street signs, do you think it's a good idea for us to be spending more on Christmas decorations, plus the manpower and electricity involved, and all the more so in a city where I imagine there's a very high non-Christian population?
