I think their phone selection has improved. Funny this is, Sprint use to have the hottest phones back in 1999. Now they have fallen by the waste side to the realm of unimportant saddled with that horrible neon yellow as their signature color.

Because back then they spent a lot of $$ locking up exclusive phones but it hasn't worked out in the long run. People are not loyal to one carrier they follow where the next hot phone would be.
As carriers move off away from 3G to LTE, Sprint being late to the LTE party is losing more subscribers than all these cheap contracts they're offering.
The fastest they move off their CDMA the quicker they can get newest phones
Sprint is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL in NYC and frankly NY state. I travel a ton and every time I leave New York my service is better but nothing spectacular. Service is 60% of the time in 3G and nothing works. I've had T-Mobile who also sucks worse than Sprint and I had Verizon for years which was the BEST service I've ever had. I'm actually pissed that I switched...

You should get your phone looked at. I pretty much always have a 4G signal. I tether it to my laptop and can hardly tell the difference between that and using my wired connection at home.
I agree with Febtober. It could certainly be your phone that is faulty not the Sprint service. I'm not going to blow smoke up Sprint's butt but I've had them for well over a year and a half now and I'm very pleased with their service. I'm sure I mentioned this before but I was with AT&T for over 17 years before I switched to Sprint. I had lousy AT&T service at my job and never got signal. I called them up several times and complained but they kept promising me that they were going to address the issue but never did. I finally went over to Sprint because they didn't lock down their bootloaders at the time which allowed me to root my phone. And I've been happy ever since.
I have 2 phones which I carry with my all the time. My Verizon work phone and my Sprint personal phone. There never been a time when I couldn't get service on my Sprint phone and did get service on my Verizon phone. I travel through LI, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan all day long and I always get service. Except for when I'm by the water or somewhere rural. In those cases most other people can't get service too. My sister lives by the water on LI and I can only get sparse service there, but she's still with AT&T and can't get much service either.
My Sprint services works well in NYC, calls, data, and texts. I love it, and I have 4 LTE.
