No change, though I don't have any interactions with the police.

For me, this doesn't change anything. The cops did nothing wrong here. Gardner was a small time street hustler, who got busted for his small time hustle. If he would have cooperated, he probably would have been released on a disappearance ticket, and had to pay a couple hundred dollar fine. But he resisted arrest, so they took him down, and with his lousy health, this was enough stress to trigger a fatal asthma attack. End of story.

I've had multiple interactions with cops on the street (never to be arrested though) and never had problem. Then again, I don't commit crimes.

He said the biggest surprise was, despise initiatives to make it otherwise, how much the NYPD is composed of officers who lived outside the inner city in places like Long Island, and Westchester. There is no vested interested and a huge cultural difference with the people they are policing. Many often do not know how to empathize with those they are policing because of this. He would tell me being an Italian from Brooklyn, a minority in the NYPD at the time, how so many officers would basically laugh at him, make snark remarks about him from being from the city. He saw the difference in their living geography as a sign of exploiting poor urban people as well.

Also after this whole NYPD mosque spying scandal, both the feds offices and Newark and Manhattan released statements condemning it, as it hurt their relation and recruitment with many Muslim Americans in the area (their biggest recruitment geography is N. Jersey and NYC for such communities). It shows me the huge gap in policing and enforcement between federal and local law enforcement. The Feds to their credit, are VERY peculiar with hiring, have had huge hiring freezes lately including many in defense, very careful with who they choose to contract out to.

Also frnakly....60% of today's youth is un or underemployed ...I really find it hard to justify paying a bunch of 6 weeks off 70k+ officers with no technical skills. It screams the death of merit to me.

You claim that you "don't see Asian American officers murdering unarmed minorities in the numbers white officers are"

Just curious...how many unarmed minorities have you seen/heard of recently that have been shot by white officers?

AGAIN BBMW its not about the fact that he got arrested its that the cops went overboard!! yes i do agree he shouldnt have been doing what he was doing but no one has the right to kill someone. I just think its weird they arent cracking down on some real criminals.

How many arrests to qualify as a real criminal?

Depends on the offense, but once you hit double digits you are a criminal automatically guilty of being an idiot.

I don't see where they went overboard. When they tried to cuff him up, he resisted. The amount of force they used would not cause serious injury or death to a healthy person, and was necessary given his size and perceived strength. The reason he died was because of his health issues, which the cops had no way of knowing about.

As far as cracking down on real criminals, that's the point of Broken Windows. Crack down on the minor crimes to deny the environment for major crimes to develop.

My sentiment is the same as most here: no change. I am a law abiding citizen and if I ever get stopped or questioned by the police, I fully cooperate, which should not result in them having to use physical force on me.
