Good point. That would be a lot less cops. Let the hood police themselves. Its a money pit anyway.

Will be interesting to see if crime does spike in NYC, but I am not sure it will...

Crime in major cities across the industrialized world is falling and I think the style of policing has little to do with it. It will be interesting to see if that is the case, this weird chain of events will allow us to confirm this.

When crime doesnt significantly rise, what will NYPD do then?

The unions better tell DB that they are going to end him politically. Bratton too if he doesn't get in line.

Re: '........and I hope mayor di blasio once again has the guts to stand up for nyc residents and not be intimidated by the police'

Rather than being concerned about being 'intimidated' by ANYONE maybe the old boy should be on another thought line in this divisive problem? He is the mayor of everyone in the city and shouldn't partial out his allegiances so publicly.

And this thing about 'proving guts'. Look the movies have already taught us the guys who have to prove they have the guts to stand up are more often than not the weakest chumps.

its not about "proving guts" its about having guts. the police want to intimidate the mayor and force him to accept the corruption where police are completely unaccountable for any of their actions. i hope he doesnt fall in line.

he is the mayor of everyone which includes the citizens that get speeding, cell phone, parking, etc tickets while the cops run red lights, speed, park illegally, etc. whenever they please. he is the mayor of the people that get put in headlocks and the mayor of people that cops shoot in the chest while walking downstairs. he needs to speak up against the corrupt system where cops arent held accountable. he doesnt need to try to lie to prevent cops from facing needed justice.
