Re: 'I hope the police don't turn their backs on De Blasio at the funeral of Officer Liu after being told not to by Bratton. They made their point and to do so will look punitive and childish'
Just to push the envelope..can't the mayor suggest he perhaps was not good in his choice of remarks regarding the NYPD? Any problem with that? Does it diminish him if he falls on his sword?

Too late for that, and what it would accomplish? It would make him look weak.

Maybe so. He is still the mayor of the whole city so it's necessary for him to try to see things from all sides, not just the police's. On the other hand, maybe he could have chosen his words more carefully. With that being said, if one of these officers was my brother or father, I'd be more pissed at the police for using my loved one's funeral as an opportunity to protest. It's really low class.

As opposed to the mayor who believes your loved on died pushing racism on the poor innocent brown man?
Which is the same thing the cops are thinking. The NYPD is done with DeBlasio unless he apologizes. The next three years will be interesting.
I think the problem with de Blasio is he didn't really intend to make any changes to policing. He used populism to get himself elected, then he appointed Bratton. Under de Blasio it was still okay for cops to bust people for selling weed and loosies. Garner died, which lead to protests, and then two cops were murdered. The NYPD did not want to be a political punching back, so they protested and said no arrests unless absolutely necessary. This isn't what de Blasio wanted. I think speeds up the time frame in which weed becomes legal (something de Blasio was too chicken **** to touch). This sent a major message to City Hall in that they can't pass or maintain laws (like making loosie's illegal) that are extremely unpopular, yet when the **** hits the fan with the public, put all the blame on the police. I think the cops are doing the right thing!

You know it would seem the mayor kind of met up with the 'unexpected' in a sense, didn't ad-lib well and now has a tiger by the tail. I have this feeling that yes he may not 'apologize' but rather wait things out. Timing is everything you know!
The trick as I see it is for both sides is to not get lost in their own say 'intransigence'. But really if we think about it both the mayor and the NYPD need to resolve this important issue. I think both sink or swim together on this and if they don't make the right moves here the tide'll take'em down through Hell Gate...;-)...really we're talking about the 'health' and 'welfare' of the entire city and the people in it.

Spot on. He was all talk then to one side, now he is all talk to the other. DeBlasio has ZERO leadership skills, a fact that becomes apparent with each and every passing day of his mayoralty. He is a total disaster and completely lacks even the basic qualities necessary to turn this ship of his own making around.
