Varied amounts of snow and less than predicted. LGA got 11.5 inches of snow. Suffolk County is still getting hit with snow.
All travel bans on the roads will be lifted at 8 AM. This was coordinated with NJ Governor Christie. They are still trying to coordinate with CT. Governor Malloy as the situation varies there.
The MTA is now getting its trains out. By 9 AM there should be a Sunday schedule in place. PATH service will be restored at 9 AM.
People need to check with their airlines as many flights have been canceled.
Please don't travel today if you don't have to as there is still plenty of ice under the snow. The roads are not completely clear.
This decision was Cuomo's. It was made ENTIRELY based on political posturing.
I agree. Getting really sick of looking at his face on TV too. He seems to have a need to be the center of attention. His advisors should tell him that he is not as good looking as he thinks he is and that his commander in chief act is grating. He should keep out of the limelight rather than do everything possible to be in it as he constantly does.
Cuomo is the one who jumped out front yesterday afternoon and made all the decisions about travel bans, shutting down transportation,etc......before anyone else even appeared on the scene.
Ugh! Words can't explain how pissed off I was yesterday due to working about half of my regular shift and traveling back to NJ only to find that their reaction to the storm was even MORE inane than NY that I had to spend money on a taxi.
The city got about half as much snow as projected. But in Eastern Queens there was approx. 10 inches of snow.
Because people took the travel ban seriously, the Sanitation Dept. was able to do a great job (of clearing the snow).
The MTA is coming back to life. Today will about a 65% of normal capacity which is approx. a Sunday schedule.
It is still very cold and slippery and people need to be careful especially in Eastern Queens.
Since 11 AM the city parks have been reopened.
Schools will be opened normally tomorrow/Wednesday.
Alternate side street parking will still be suspended tomorrow/Wednesday.
No date yet for the restoration of the city's recycling (program).
The city zoos and ice rinks are closed today and will reopen tomorrow/Wednesday.
