Has anyone ever had this conducted in their apartment? I received a letter from management saying that they will need to perform an apartment space planning assessment; where they will have to inspect all rooms and closets in the apartment. What's the point? do tell.

Frankly, I have recently become suspicious of supers suddenly being called resident managers. that said, you can contact the managing agent with any questions. Remember, the super works for you.

Might part of a plan to reconfigure the spaces in order to get more rent.....like turning studios into 1 bedroom apartments,1 bedroom apartments into 2 bedroom apartments, etc. Landlords can then get much more rent for the same space. There is a lot of this going on in my neighborhood and I assume elsewhere in NYC.

Older buildings, especially pre war buildings , tend to have much bigger apartments than what's considered "normal" today so it makes sense from a landlord's perspective.

some co-ops do this every couple of years to survey if residents or owners have done any unauthorized renovations or made any new partitions that could a) be a fire hazard, or b)create more living space..ie turning a one bedroom apt into a two bedroom, etc...

Do you own, or rent from a co-op owner?

Thanks for your replies. We're renting in a high rise building. We've lived here for over 10 years and never heard of such a thing.
It's really strange since all the apartments are built the same under the apartment letter, ex. 1-a, 2-a, 3-a, so on and so forth are all the same so why do they have to come inside and measure each apartments' living spaces and closets is really confusing.

In a coop the super works for the shareholders and the management company.

Maybe they think you're doing illegal airbnb rentals and want to secretly catch you in the act doing it?

I don't see what the harm is in letting them just do this. In co-op i owned in Flushing they do an annual inspection of each apt.

Unless you are doing something you don't wan them to find out about there should not be a problem. Could be for many reasons. Have you inquired as to why? Just make sure it is a schedules appt. & you are home when the person comes.

Could be for insurance reasons or many other reasons Tax assesment possibly.

I had it done one a LONG, LONG time ago. Landlord was trying to convert a 1918 30-unit building to condos and he had to offer imagined floor plans and he had no clue what the apartments actually looked like.

He was a douche and the whole thing fell through but not until he wasted money printing a big thick book.
