I currently live in West Palm Beach, FL. Me and my fiance and son are moving back to NY next month, and before everything is finalized, we want to make sure this is the right decision. One major factor would be the quality of schools. I grew up in Brooklyn and i went to high school in NJ, and those schools up north in my opinion are better than here. I was wondering if there was a website i could check out where i can compare school districts? or to atleast check the statistics of each school district in NYC and south FLA. He is 4 yrs old and in pre-k, but i am just trying to figure out which school districs in which he will have the best shot. We as parents will of course do a major part in making sure he does well, no matter where he goes to school. But a good school will definitely help. I post on here sometimes, but this is my first new thread i have posted. Thanks for any help i can get!

You can look up individual NYC schools and their annual "Report Cards" on the NYC BOE site, but to compare two districts, you might want to try Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site. I can't vouch for its accuracy, but hopefully it'll give you a place to start at least.

Good luck with the move!

Try InsideSchools.com- it has pretty objective info. It's less statistical but it helps you get a broader picture. Also, the official DOE site is schools.nyc.gov. There are links to the individual schools and their info.

Also, if anyone has opinions on the matter, feel free to let me know what you think! It would be most helpful if you actually lived in both places to compare. I guess this is what happens when someone is torn between two places, and especially when it comes to children. I truly just want whats best for my son... On one hand, i want him to experience what i did growing up in NY, the diversity and culture, 4 seasons, city is so alive!.. but then again it can be hell for one kid and heaven for another. On the other hand, i want him to be able to enjoy his childhood, and in NY...kids grow up VERY fast.

It may not be as helpful as other sites in terms of the schools report cards, but you can go to GreatSchools.net to get reviews from actual parents of the students. To me, unbiased opinions mean more.
