I'm not paying a CPA ever again.
I've never paid a professional and I started working nights while in high school...so that's a LOT of tax forms and for two people for a long time with a couple states.
(I've got my copies back to the time of the 92% rate, i.e., back to the time when the rich paid taxes.)

In the past, I've used software because life was simple. In 2013 I bought a co-op and also used software, but a lot of questions arose that the program couldn't help with, especially when it came to projections. This year, I'm going to a CPA and will have him do my 2014 taxes and review 2013 taxes. I'm doing this because buying a home is a life event and I really think a professional can help, even if it's to say, "hey, you're doing everything ok, carry on." I can understand not wanting to spend the money on an accountant, but if you do it for the one year that you have a life event, then it's not like you're roped into anything. I think you should talk to a pro. Just my two cents.
