Bronx Zoo and its not even close. Central Park is awesome, but its zoo is okay and the its main attraction by far.

The Central Park Zoo is very small compared to the Bronx Zoo and I would look recommend for people with children. For an adult I would only suggest going to the Bronx Zoo.

No comparison.
The Central Park Zoo is only an afterthought.
The Bronx Zoo is world class.

But why not wait until we are done with this deep freeze?

I would recommend Bronx Zoo because the place is huge. I haven't been to Central Park Zoo, but base on the map that I found on their official website, is relatively small compare to the bronx zoo.

Bronx Zoo! It's great in winter, too: Winter Wonderland - Bronx Zoo

If the February cold gets too much, add on a visit to NY Botanical Gardens, located 1.3 miles away, but it's only open until 5 p.m. in winter (Tuesday -Sundays). There's a warm indoor Conservatory there, as well as some indoor areas of the zoo, of course.

More details re: indoors at Botanical Gardens: The annual orchid show starts Feb 28. Before going, double-check dates for all their Special Exhibitions, as several change in February. Orchid set-ups might close off the tropical rainforest late Feb., but won't impact the cactus/desert permanent collection rooms.

Depending on how early you rise, you could do both places in one day.

My God, they seem to do it earlier and earlier every year.
