I know that New York is in America and so technically you guys are American. But when I think of New York, I don't think of it as an American city or state. I think of New York much in the same way that I think of a place like Hawaii or a place like Alaska, their residents are technically considered American, but really?
So, do New Yorkers generally consider themselves to be American? And if not exactly American, what do you guys consider yourselves to be?
This has to be one of the most asinine questions posted to this forum. Considering the number of stupid questions posted by those who don't have a clue about New York City that is saying something.
Sadly even trolls have to find something to occupy their time. With the advent of laptops and WiFi even those living under bridges can have Internet access.

If you are going to run around NYC asking similar questions, then no, don't expect much different. We *REAL* New Yorkers have little patience for yokels and their country-time selves asking silly questions.
You have to distinguish between upstate NY and NYC/Metro. Upstate= ultra conservative, republican, etc. NYC opposite. BUT, then you have to distinguish which PARTS of NYC. S.I.= conservative, republican. Manhattan = ultra left, democratic. Bronx, Bklyn, Qns a mixed bag but leaning left, democratic. L.I: well it depends on how far east you go. More east = more conservative.
As for New Yorkers considering themselves American, -- well those of us who don't watch Fox news, who don't always support U.S. military aims, who believe in a more, dare I say, SOCIALISTIC way of life (where poor people and everyone else are provided basic food/shelter/healthcare/education), and who's idea of culture isn't necessarily Nascar and Elvis -- we might indeed wonder where OUR country is.

We are patriotic, but Patriotism is generally not a hobby. I'd agree with the socialist leanings. We are open to that.
We certainly think of ourselves as Americans - if we are. However, our New Yorker identity is quite strong and proud.
Those in places like Staten Island strangely often wildly patriotic, came here the most recently (100 years ago or less) but hyphenate their ethnicity i.e. "Irish-American". - these folks seem to be the least welcoming to new comers.
Not much interest in NASCAR or hunting in lower NY State. Many people have not owned guns ever.

I was born and raised in a large metro, not in the country. And how is asking what a group of people identify themselves as a silly question? You don't have to be so quick to be a tough guy, my question was no sillier than any other question asked in the CD community.

Usually when I hear a New Yorker stating where they're from, it's, "I'm from Brooklyn" "I'm from New York City" "I'm from the Bronx" "I'm grew up near Woolworth" etc... I never seen a New Yorker with that wide eyed "American and proud" look. Or heard a New Yorker say, "This is Amurrica!" New Yorkers don't strike me as very American or Patriotic, and the police certainly don't seem very interested in protecting or upholding peoples 4th amendment rights. If you can't grasp what the difference is, it's a waste of time having to explain it to you.
Maybe you should consider why so many posters on this thread think your question is stupid/silly/one of the most ridiculous ever seen on this forum.
