Bought a house and an apprasel was done where my basement has a full bathroom. it also have windows that is large enough for a average person to crawl through and electrical outlet as if its a regular room.

Question is how do I find out if it allow to be occupy as a bedroom? It also only have one stair entrance/exit which leads to the backyard of the house.

Thanks.

Check with the HPD (Housing preservation development), but I think you might need to call 311. Also, you can check with Department of Building, they might have the certificate of occupancy for you to view on their website.

It doesn't matter how many windows, outlets, doors, space, etc... you have, the only thing that matters is what is listed on your CofO which I'm sure you got a copy at closing. If you have a legal bathroom it will be listed there. If you really want to be sure get all the building records from your local DOB
