Not really. The financial district is quite desolate at night. Not so in LIC.

What's your budget? That would help a lot.

I totally agree with you, Viralmd, I think she is totally nuts!!!! I have been living in the Bronx, NY in an area called Riverdale, and has never experienced nothing as described before! I feel safe at all times, I would not say there is no, no crime but nothing like Kimkelly said. Every boroughs in the city have good and bad; I thing NY is a great place to live but expensiveeeeeeeee!!!!

Not to be nosy but where are you moving from? Because to be totally honest NYC is a very competative, hard, sometimes scary and VERY VERY expensive place to live in. First I would advice to DEFINITELY get a job before making any drastic moves.

So no one ever really talks about Staten Island so I don't know much about it. I want to go to NYU or at least NYC for college and my mom might move to NYC after I graduate. She doesn't really want me going, so I asked if I could go if she moved there. She said if I find her a reasonably priced place that's not the size of her closet, she'll consider it. LOL.

So, I found this place. Is it in a nice area? It seems really nice, but I know nothing of SI.
19 Star Ct, Staten Island, NY, 10312 - MLS ID#1050737 - Condo/Townhome/Row Home/Co-Op real estate - REALTOR.com® (http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/19-Star-Ct_Staten-Island_NY_10312_1105932270 - broken link)

Where else would you suggest? Any specific zip codes on SI or maybe Westchester or LI that would fit? Preferably 2+ bedrooms and reasonable sq. ft. for $400k or less in a safe neighborhood where a 50 or 60 year old lady would feel safe alone. A condo is fine too. LOL.

Default Is it possible to sign a lease two months in advance?

I'm moving out of my current apartment in bushwick (lease ends end of may 09) and will be out of the city for the next two months (june and july) and will only be returning to the city mid-august before school starts.. should i look for an apartment now? is it wise/possible to sign a lease two months in advance, or should i just wait and come back in mid august, and look for an apartment then?

thanks!!!

I would not suggest SI if you're planning to go to college in the city... the commute is terrible, and if you don't have a car, you can't stay out all the late, as buses, or ferries that you need to take to get home will stop running.

Oh. =\ Well I wouldn't go like every day. LOL.

Are there any other cheaper places? Any nice places on Long Island that aren't too expensive but still safe? Queens? I know Manhattan and Brooklyn are too expensive.
