Has anyone gone thru the process of obtaining a permit for a rifle in NYC. I will be inheriting a collectors rifle from my father soon and would appreciate any information concerning the process to pocess it legally in NYC.

go to the queens court house in kew gardens and apply. you need a squeaky clean record and money.

it will take about 4 months more or less. you can't store it in the city limits unless you have the permit

what rifle is it ? many are not allowed in the city or able to be registered.

You'd need a license for any type of firearm in NYC in addition to the gun permit. You may have to prove need even if it's only for storage or show in the house. If the Henry has sentimental value, obtain the services of an attorney to aid with the licensing and permitting. Or you could...

there is no need to demonstrate need at all for either a residence/hunting /target permit or a rifle shot gun permit.

as long as your record is clean merely hunting or target shooting is all you need . the residence permit is already for home defense and again you need to demonstrate no need.

you need no other services . your perit is your license and there is nothing else you need.

it is only when you get involved trying to get a carry or restricted carry that need even enters the equation.

there is not even a place on the application for listing need unless a carry or restricted carry is requested. see attached application.

you have a seperate application for handgun which is here and a rife shotgun one i posted in another thread below.

here is the rifle shotgun application as well. there is no question pertaining to need at all on it.
