Has anyone gone thru the process of obtaining a permit for a rifle in NYC. I will be inheriting a collectors rifle from my father soon and would appreciate any information concerning the process to pocess it legally in NYC.

there is no need to demonstrate need at all for either a residence/hunting /target permit or a rifle shot gun permit.
as long as your record is clean merely hunting or target shooting is all you need . the residence permit is already for home defense and again you need to demonstrate no need.
you need no other services . your perit is your license and there is nothing else you need.
it is only when you get involved trying to get a carry or restricted carry that need even enters the equation.
there is not even a place on the application for listing need unless a carry or restricted carry is requested. see attached application.
