I bet if you look at the racial/ethnic breakdown of those economically eligible for public housing, the breakdown would not lend itself to racial mixing.

How many white people do you think are willing to live in NYCHA?

That being said, NYCHA is diverse. All types of blacks and Latinos, Chinese in some spots, and maybe some Hassidic Jews if I'm not mistaken.

They tried this with some projects, like Pomonok in Queens. Usually what ends up happening is that all the white families leave, resulting in Projects that are overwhelming one race.
