NYCHA should implement affirmative action on the PJ's. New York PJ's are like 90% African-American and 8% Hispanic.

If you read the thread someone gave me the idea to move down across the Guinea Gangplank to Staten Island, I could find a basement apartment in New Dorp for an amount I can afford.
You clearly have not investigated the possibility of attending college without a GED. Totally possible at many schools. Try using Google and search "college without hs diploma". Many NYC area colleges offer programs where you attend and earn 24 credits. Once that's done, you'll be issued a GED or in some, an actual diploma.

As you enjoy working with your hands, trade school is also possible. Don't back yourself into a corner where being unemployable due to insufficient education is a strong reality.

Maybe they're starting? Looks like they've favoring Asians according to a council woman. I guess things are getting more fair with affirmative action spreading to other areas besides education. Soon the wave of whites will also arrive at your local projects.

It is a big complex. You should try to get one of the apartment in corner rather than in the heart of the projects. I wouldn't want to have to walk deep inside the projects at night to get inside. Biggest surprise is the amount of elderly people in need of care, the paramedics are called about once a week (which can be noisy at night).

The government has been cleaning up the projects on the surrounding area in anticipation of all the new real estate development opening up near by (especially Long island city). In 2013, there was a big drug bust in queensbridge and ravenswood (they are both near by each other). Your biggiest complaint will probably be feeling discriminated by police for living in the projects as they constantly monitor it (that is if you fit a stereotype).

Thanks....I am Asian so I may be discriminated against by the tenants, not the police. I did read that there is a police unit inside this PJ and that new lighting was installed throughout the exterior.

There is a lot of Asians that live near by. Most Asian who come from china don't know what a project is so they are more willing to buy what they percieved to be a cheap house near Manhattan. There is a popular ghetto Chinese restaurant near by called "hunan Chinese restaurant", you can ask them about the neighborhood. They have a huge clientele from the people living in the projects. In addition there is Chinese people owning a dry cleaning business and dollar store near by on 34th ave.

I can confirm the police are on 21st in the middle of the pjs, they are open 24/7 and only purpose is to monitor the pjs. The pjs in the past were required to pay for the services. Light system has been installed but it low cheap lights which leave some dark spots, hence I wouldn't want to walk inside the deep areas of the complex.
