Visiting relatives - what cab advice to give them? (Utica: neighborhood, live)

When my houseguests finish up very late-night in Manhattan and train to Brooklyn, what's the most reliable way for them to arrange a cab to meet them?

Is it better to phone it in from Manhattan, or wait to exit in Brooklyn?

The issue is: I don't want them walking my neighborhood at 1 and 2 a.m.. It's too deserted and their body language isn't up to the task.

I live 12 minutes walk from the A/C (Utica) or the 3/4 (Utica).
