Certain individuals on this forum claim that poor people are never displaced due to gentrification.
"The Clinton Family Inn, located in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood that is better-known for its bars and restaurants than for housing stock, is part of a four-shelter network operated by Manhattan-based nonprofit Homes for the Homeless. The shelter joins three others in the area that have closed in the past few years, said Ralph da Costa Nunez, president and chief executive of Homes for the Homeless."
"Homes for the Homeless is seeking other locations. It is unlikely it will find any in high-cost Manhattan, although numerous other shelters continue to operate in the borough."

A new location will be much further out in the outer boroughs where it is cheap to acquire land (definitely not Western Brooklyn or Western Queens). Look for more shelters to be in Jamaica Queens, North Bronx, Eastern Brooklyn, and the bad parts of the Rockaways, along with certain bad parts of Staten Island (especially the flood prone South Shore).
Several shelters have closed in Hells Kitchen in the past few years, as the real estate in Hells Kitchen is becoming extremely hot.
