If you can't afford the fine... Don't do the crime. Something like that. I can see it now... What are you in for? Murder.. How about you? I flaked out on jury duty.
You could try calling an attorney to get a free consult...So at least you are prepared. The local attorney's know a lot about how certain judges react to certain situations....
Or, try looking it up in the Century Code for your County. Good luck, and please update.
For the love of God, just do whatever the letter instructs and stop seeking answers from strangers. Keep messing about with the NY court system and you will find yourself in deeper.
No warrant has been issued (yet), and there is a good chance you will not be fined. Just be prepared to agree to JD that day. If things are really going your way the court will ask when you would like to serve. If not they will assign you a date and you'll have to appear.
Fine for what? Coming in to clear your warrant? Being late to jury duty in NYC traffic?
Calling an attorney? For what? That warrant that no judge cares about? LOL, you are getting crappy advice from people who don't know a thing about how the system works.
how likely am I to be fined? $250 is a lot for me right now...a whole lot i dont have.
They have really gotten into the $1,000 fine in the last few years. It's turning into quite the income generator. They will let you work out a payment program though.
I have heard this, but I can't say I know first hand it's true, but I'll put it out there. Believe it at your own risk.
I've heard they're very good at sending out letters and such, but not much beyond that. They never really follow up and go after anyone. So you can basically just ignore it.
Then again, if $250 is a lot of money for the OP, he might as well just go and collect the little bit of money they give you.
Why can't you just get it over with? Yes it may be boring to sit and wait for however long you have to be called to serve on a jury or be dismissed, but can't you spare the time instead of wondering what the consequences will be for not serving?

Like I said, after I postponed and stopped getting letters I didnt even think about it. I have no problem serving jury duty
The best way to go and say something like "we all know he's guilty but we should still give the ba$tard a trial, amirite?" And you will be out quick
