Kinda ironic that the only majority Republican borough is also the only one to have a bald eagles nest.

I saw a bald eagle flying around SI after Hurricane Irene, but a "birder" friend told me it was probably temporarily displaced due to the storm and would leave. I wonder if this is the same one?

It really is cool to hear this. I see more wildlife on SI than in the woods upstate. Today is the first day in ages I haven't seen a deer. Yet at least...

We should be SO proud....a species not exterminated yet.

Man is going to exterminate everything...and then disappear.

Kefir: the Bald Eagle was on the endangered list - nearly gone - when I was a child (70s). Protections were put in place and it's been off for a while now.

Such good news!

There were swans in the Gowanus Canal a few weeks back. NYC is like living in wild Alaska now.

The eagle's name is Vito? Wow. Even the wildlife on the South Shore of Staten Island is Italian.

The swans on SI are huge! I have to keep my eye on two of them every time I bring my kids to a particular park. They are nasty, violent birds and constantly go after the kids.
