The person is 67 and only collects social security and SSI. Her monthly income totals about $880 and she receives food stamps for $189. S.C.R.I.E. was denied because when she moved she didn't transfer it within the time frame the allow (Not 100% sure it was exactly for that reason but they wont give it to her for this apartment). Her rent is $900 (It was a 2 year preferential lease agreement coming to an end next month), and they say fair market value is $1160 for the studio apartment and they might give her a $975 preferential rent for it instead which she finds out tomorrow. Her daughter Pays her electric, phone, and cable bills, who may not be able to keep doing so. She makes too little to qualify for Mitchell Lama housing and is scared to be placed in public housing. Is there any options for an individual like this? Thank you in advance.

Its sad that a senior has to go through this. How about moving in with the daughter or everyone finding a new place together.

There are resources, NORC is a housing initiative for seniors.

The SCRIE must be a mistake, or something that needs follow-through. I do not think she can be denied permanently.

She needs to reapply for SCRIE. Problem is that it will prevent only FUTURE rent increases. She may be stuck with that untenable $900 or $975 forever.
If she has been there a year she should have reapplied for SCRIE as soon as she moved.

Does she have savings?

Many elderly people are in that kind of a bind in spite of the press releases extolling an "improving economy"...yeah for bankers and hedge find operators.
