I don't think it's sad at all.The real FAO Schwartz died 30 years ago and the place that is there now is just an annoying over priced souvenir shop for rich tourists.

Yes. The old Schwartz, there was something magical about that place. The one now is nothing really special...like a Macys in anytown mall USA vs. the Herald Square original.

When I as a kid, man I wanted the kid-sized military uniform (page 136):

1967 FAO Schwarz Christmas Catalog

Those were the days--great model trains set up in the store, Macys even had a magician on staff to demonstrate and sell tricks to the kids.

Really shows you how incredibly greedy landlords have become, because I'm sure the rent was already sky-high. In fact, that's what's missing from the article. I'd love to know what they're currently paying.
