Hi, to all...
I live in a market-rate apartment in Queens and applied for a nycha apartment. Now I am on the waitinglist waiting for my eligibility interview, what, I know, might take years.
I want to know when does nycha approach my current landlord for information and references about my rent payment history, and my behavior as a tenant in general? Is this done immediately before the eligibility interview,or after the EI?
I want to know this, because I do not want that my LL is getting notified years in advance that I applied for a nycha apartment, and still living in his house. That would make me feel quite uncomfortable!
But, anyways, I cannot do anything against it, no matter how they handle this, but I want to know, so that I could inform him before nycha "ambushes" him, unexpectedly and surprisingly.
Although I do not know for sure, it would seem logical that the landlord contact would be the LAST step, after you are deemed income eligible (after your interview and credit check.)
Landlord and premises checks are expensive so they will not usually do them for all applicants.

Thanks, Kefir King, for replying.
And your opinion makes much sense, and I hope it will be like this.
Thanks again....

For affordable housing 80/20 buildings most require a form for your landlord letter to fill out when you turn in the rest of your paper work. So its before an interview and credit card.
Also they don't do home visits anymore.

It's not an 80/20 application, it's a nycha 70/30.
A whole form? That's very thorough, hopefully not too intruding and private.
Thanks for replying, lsin.
