Damn, just noticed that. Not many NYC properties have that anymore. I've been saying this for a long time. Woodhaven is an underrated neighborhood. Many old historical houses in the area, few are landmarked.

I personally don't mind the SBS services and I think Woodhaven Boulevard would be a good street for it. If you ever drive down Woodhaven from Queens Blvd you'll notice not many people use the right most lane anyway except for the double parkers.

I don't know what plan they have for the stretch near Jamaica Avenue though. I think they're getting rid of the old bus stop that use to be between Liberty Ave and Rockaway Blvd.

No more left turns on to Myrtle or Jamaica. Thats what the petition complained about most.

I’ve been curious about Woodhaven lately. I was thinking about moving to Forest Hills / Kew Gardens and spent a couple weekends walking around Woodhaven and Richmond Hill to see what the neighborhoods on the other side of the park were like, and I was surprised by how nice they seemed.

I think one reason Woodhaven isn’t better known is that it only has one retail street, Jamaica Avenue under the J/Z train. My impression is that the area directly under the train feels kind of dark and gloomy even on a weekend in the summer. If you just go by the train you’d never know that there were beautiful historic houses just a few blocks away. It’s kind of like Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, but the difference is that in Jackson Heights, there’s a whole separate retail area that runs directly through the historic district.

That’s my limited impression anyway, curious if people who actually live in the neighborhood think it’s accurate.

Woodhaven/Richmond Hill feel more like Ridgewood/Glendale than Forest Hills/Kew Gardens. That dying old school NYC feel.

Yeah, I didn't mean to compare the neighborhoods overall, just that they're both next to Forest Park.

Its fine to compare. Both have charm. Just different settings based off of their initial development and purpose. And one is still affordable while the other really isn't.
