Classes are now opened for folks here at City Data NYC.

Recently, I moved from the Cypress Hills neighborhood on the Brooklyn side into the Woodhaven neighborhood on the Queens side. From the 11208 to the 11421.

On City Data NYC, we gave free lessons to those who are curious about the Brooklyn neighborhood of Cypress Hills. Which brought it to the light for many. It made many new viewers curious.

On City-Data-NYC We hear a lot about Bushwick (in Brooklyn) and it's neighbor Ridgewood (in Queens). We already read and saw details about Cypress Hills (in Brooklyn) and now it's time for it's neighbor Woodhaven (in Queens) to come to the light...

Woodhaven is a neighborhood which features different types of housing stock. Ranging from Row houses to single family homes to apartment buildings.

Let the classes begin...

Woodhaven's boundaries are Forest Park to the north, Eldert Lane to the west, Atlantic Ave to the south and 101st street to the east. There are several landmark buildings in Woodhaven. The neighborhood is serviced by the J/Z trains on a elevated track above Jamaica Ave. Only 3 stations in Woodhaven and those are, 75st, 85st-Forest Pkwy and Woodhaven Blvd. Also, Jamaica Ave is the main commercial strip of the neighborhood.

Old 'Neis Tavern' which has been around since 1829. It's one of the oldest, if not the oldest bar in all of NYC. Also a landmark building.

The Betty Smith house on Forest Parkway. Also a landmark building.

Another landmark building on Park Lane South. It is the first house number in Queens.

There was an f2 Tornado which touched down in the area. It did some damage in Cypress Hills and also Woodhaven back in 1895. Probably the strongest tornado to strike NYC. it did most of it's damage around Rockaway Blvd - Atlantic Ave - 83rd street. In the area of post #4 (bottom 2 links).
