There's been very little talk of a legal challenge by the restaurant association in the courts. Maybe minimum wage workers in other industries will sue under the equal protection clause to get the same wage that fast food workers will get. I don't see how there can be a higher minimum wage just for one industry.

The numbers didn't go down each year for 20 years straight... Numbers fluctuate. Especially if we're going week by week. Had we had this conversation before this week the number would have been 174 to 165 where the increase for the year would have been 5%. You also conveniently left out that pretty much all the statistics aside from two of the 7 major felonies have decreased and some by far more significant numbers than murder as percentages for murder (being that they are so LOW already for this over populated city) tend to look worse than the numbers actually dictate.

For the record, here's evidence of your 20 year downward trend being absolute nonsense. A historical look at the last 15 years of crime in NYC. Interestingly enough, the last 4 years have been on an actual downward trend despite the rise in population. Our murder rate is as close to a utopia as you will find.

Excuse you?

There has been more than a "little" talk from the restaurant business/association/owners about suing over this proposed change. Here is one linked news story but there are others: Fast Food Franchise Owners Consider Suing N.Y. Over Minimum Wage - NBC News

I didn't say no talk, I said little talk. Read the language in your own link. It's very wishy-washy. Feel free to scold my post when the restaurant association actually sues.

Attorney Randy Mastro said he will review the measure before deciding whether to pursue a legal claim.

The attorney they hired is anything but wishy-washy.

Fast-food franchisees are not taking Governor Andrew Cuomo's this latest movement to raise minimum wage lightly. The group has hired Randy Mastro, former deputy mayor under Rudy Giuliani, to take on the governor and the state labor commissioner.

The acclaimed attorney, sometimes dubbed as the "maestro of mischief," has litigated many of the nation's biggest lawsuits, including representing the federal government to fight against the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBEW). Today he is representing Gov. Chris Christie in his Bridgegate scandal, as well as Univision, the broadcast network that is fighting against Donald Trump's $500 million lawsuit. The multi-billionaire sued Univision after the Spanish-language television network announced it would no longer televise Trump's Miss America and Miss Universe pageants because of his remarks about Mexican immigration.

The new minimum wages for fast food workers are being implemented faster in NYC where of course there are more voters.

Edit: Didn't see other thread on the minimum wage. Oops.
The fast food chains should start price competing with each other, if they are not already. Well, they should be already, and ought to continue through any minimum wage hikes.

A lot of illegals that work in delis and eateries already make the equivalent of $15/hr. You ask any business owner, if they don't pay an illegal about $100-150/day they will not show up the next day.

As ridiculous as 15 an hour sounds.
Paying executives 3+ Million a year is equally ridiculous.

Lower top at the pay a lot.
Raise pay at the bottom a reasonable amount-

America may then work again.

It doesn't work like that, if you were at the top and told to pay people at the bottom more you'll probably keep the money to yourself. The same as winning the lottery, nobody ever shares their winnings with others.

The way to change this is to say no to low paying jobs. If company has a hard time getting workers, they have to pay more.

It doesn't help when you have democrats and the President willing to give undocumented workers working papers here I'm sure. But we can change that with the election by electing people who has accountability with the American people.

Vote Trump and send the illegals packing home.
